Individualized Approach

Support That Makes a Difference

Children

I am  a  Certified Synergetic Play Therapist TM..  Synergetic Play Therapy TM (2008)

is a researched-informed model of play therapy blending the therapeutic power of play with nervous system regulation, interpersonal neurobiology, physics, attachment, mindfulness, and therapist authenticity. It grew from personal experience as well as research in neuroscience, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and attachment theory (see Badenoch, 2008; Porges, 2011; Schore, 1994; Siegel, 1999 for coverage of the ideas behind SPT). Preliminary research suggests that SPT significantly improves emotional tolerance and regulation (Dion & Gray, 2014; Simmons, 2020).

Its primary play therapy influences are Child-Centered, Experiential, and Gestalt theories.

Play is the language a child uses to share their world and emotions. They need to feel safe in the playroom and with the counselor in order to begin exploring their challenges.   I meet the child where they are at and aim to build an authentic relationship while modeling healthy emotional regulation.  Part of the counseling  process involves regularly communicating with the child's caregiver

in order to collaborate on how to effectively support their child.

 Teen Girls

Being a teen girl in today's world brings many new experiences along with physical, emotional, social and academic changes. Some struggle with the negative effects of social media  and find themselves dealing with relationship stress, suicidal ideation, anxiety or depression.

Finding a good fit with a counselor is so important. Often teens need  to get support in a safe, nonjudgmental place.

I aim to listen first in order to understand their perspective and their world. I adjust my approach in order to best fit each individual. Talking, drawing, art, sand trays and music are just a few tools I may incorporate in counseling.  I also use EMDR Therapy as an effective approach to help bring about healing from traumatic or disturbing events.

Women

I enjoy counseling women of all ages. There are many reasons women may need support. Here are some issues I often work with:

relationship problems, individual identity issues, family struggles, parenting issues, body image issues, boundaries and healthy communication, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, and trauma.

There are may ways to heal from trauma. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is recognized internationally and is one approach I use.

Barb Maiberger MA LPC explains, "EMDR Therapy (or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy) is an integrative therapy that helps people heal from Traumatic events as well as, life disturbing experiences. Discovered by Dr. Francine Shapiro, EMDR Therapy has gotten worldwide attention for helping millions of people heal from PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder) caused from traumatic events, such as; rape, sexual abuse, auto accidents and combat. EMDR Therapy can also help people who feel distress in their lives to heal and feel more whole after events that have been disturbing such as; divorce, life transitions, grief, anxiety and much more."
